A Well-Kept Secret, A Well-Deserved Honor!
This morning, staff and students at Robbinsdale School pulled off a top-secret surprise assembly to celebrate Alyssa Downey for an incredible honor!
Alyssa was recognized as the 2026 South Dakota School Nurse of Excellence — a statewide award recognizing the very best school nurse in South Dakota. 🏆
From caring for students to supporting staff and families, Alyssa’s compassion, dedication, and leadership make a difference every single day. In addition to serving students at Robbinsdale, Alyssa is also the school nurse at Grandview Elementary School. We are so proud to celebrate her and this well-deserved recognition.

District Opener – Building Closure Notice
On Monday, August 18, all Rapid City Area Schools buildings will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to approximately 10:30 a.m. for our annual District Opener event. This is a special tradition where all RCAS staff gather to celebrate the start of the new school year and align for success. We appreciate your understanding as we take this time to connect, inspire, and ring in the new year together.

Now that moms have received their special gifts, we can share what Grandview Elementary School kindergarteners were up to last week! 💐
City Greenhouse Specialist John Berglund joined the kindergarteners for a fun and educational planting session with our youngest learners. He shared tips on seeds and plant care, then helped each student plant a flower to take home—just in time for Mother's Day! 🌱
Thank you to Mr. Berglund and Rapid City Municipal Government team for making this hands-on learning experience so meaningful and memorable for our students (and their moms)!
🌸 Spring Break Reminder! 🌸
Rapid City Area Schools will be on Spring Break from April 14–21. There will be no school during that week as students and staff take a well-deserved break!
📅 Classes will resume on Monday, April 22.

Scarecrow making at Valley View Elementary! Ms. Macziewski's Jr. Kindergarten class teamed up with a fourth-grade class to assemble some great fall scarecrows. The older students helped the younger ones with the project, and everyone worked together to get it done. 🍂
